Work where engineering, automation and robotics come together

If you enjoy understanding how automated equipment works, diagnosing faults and getting production systems back up and running, this role gives you the opportunity to work at the heart of a highly automated manufacturing operation.

Baxter Thetford is looking for an Automation Bias Maintenance Engineer to join our Operational Maintenance Engineering team.

You will work across electrical, mechanical and automated systems, supporting production equipment, robotics and controls in an environment where engineering reliability has a direct impact on the products we deliver to patients.

This is not a pure PLC programming role. We are looking for someone who understands automated equipment and is confident using system information, controls and technical data to diagnose faults.

What you’ll be doing

You will:

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on automated production equipment
• Diagnose electrical, mechanical and automation-related faults
• Work with PLC-controlled machinery and control systems
• Support robotics, sensors, drives, motors and control panels
• Interpret electrical schematics and technical data
• Support equipment installations, upgrades and automation projects
• Use Maximo and other digital engineering systems to record maintenance activity
• Identify reliability improvements and opportunities to reduce downtime
• Work closely with production and engineering colleagues across site

What we’re looking for

You may currently be working as a: Automation Engineer | Controls Engineer | Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer | Electrical Maintenance Engineer | Field Service Engineer

We are looking for experience in areas such as:

• Automated production or industrial equipment
• PLC-controlled machinery
• Electrical fault-finding
• Control panels, sensors, motors and drives
• Robotics or automation systems
• Reading electrical schematics
• Digital maintenance and engineering systems
• Pneumatics and hydraulics
• Manufacturing, FMCG, food, packaging, pharmaceutical, logistics automation or another highly automated environment

You do not need to be an advanced PLC programmer, but you should be comfortable understanding how PLC-controlled equipment operates and using information from the system to support fault diagnosis.
