Due to our rapid growth at Transmission & Distribution Ltd, we’re looking first appointment and experienced site based Overhead Lines (OHL) Transmission Foremen to join the Wood T&D entity, overseeing multi-disciplinary teams on overhead line transmission projects. You will ensure the delivery of high-quality construction supervision, uphold safety standards without compromising staff or environmental integrity, and coordinate efforts among Chargehands, Linesmen, Support Staff, and sub-contractors while liaising effectively with clients and third parties to meet company goals and schedules.
This opportunity is a site-based position, we have works issued under various OHL frameworks which mean the position is UK wide. You will need to be flexible in your work location as you will be away from home for periods of time and will travel and work across the UK.

You will report to the General Foreman and Construction Manager, to ensure high-quality supervision, uphold safety standards, coordinate with Chargehands, Linesmen, Support Staff, and subcontractors, and effectively liaise with clients and third parties, all while adhering to company policies and managing project delivery.

ResponsibilitiesTypical responsibilities:
- Set high safety standards and ensure participation from all group members
- Ensure Chargehands act as Site Safety Representatives, maintain safety documentation, and supervise work
- Guarantee daily briefings on correct working methods and ensure adherence to Work Instructions (WI), Method Statements (MS), and Risk Assessments (RA)
- Promote organized, hazard-free sites and report incidents promptly
- Ensure plant and equipment are fit for purpose, correct PPE usage, and statutory inspections
- Conduct site visits and informal SHE inspections; intervene when standards are not met
- Ensure environmental measures are understood and actioned; prevent chemical contamination
- Act as a role model, represent gang’s best interests, and take accountability for actions and outputs
- Visit teams daily, coach Chargehands, and provide feedback and encouragement
- Address people issues effectively and undertake Personal Development Assessments (PDA)
- Ensure accurate documentation (DASS forms, SSWP, QA paperwork, time, and attendance records)
- Comply with British Assessment Certifications policies (Health and Safety, Quality, Environmental, Ethical Code of Conduct, Drug & Alcohol)
- Ensure effective communication and coordination with other teams and stakeholders.
- Manage resources efficiently, resolve conflicts, and train teams in emergency response procedures
QualificationsExpected:
- Demonstrated site supervision of Overhead Line contracts (refurbishment and new build) from engineering, construction, or utilities background, including managing OHL teams/ gangs and subcontractors (access and accommodation works, traffic management, scaffolds, metal access roads, yard setup, welfare facilities, tower erection, assembly, reconductoring, and refurbishment for all voltages and overhead configurations)
- Basic understanding of engineering principles
- Basic skills in English and Mathematics
- Basic computer skills (Excel and Word)
- Full clean driving licence (ability to tow - B1+E)
- Working at Height Medical / Drugs and Alcohol test
- Site Safe Supervisors Training Scheme (SSSTS)
- CPCS / NPORS Crane Supervisor
- EUSR SHEA Power
- Impressed Voltage Awareness
- Inspection of PPE
- COSHH Awareness
- Spill Management, Manual Handling, Fire Awareness, First Aid at Work and Asbestos Awareness
- Tower Rescue and Working at Height (Climbing Foreman only)
- Training/Assessments for operation of Tractor, Winch, Bollard, and HIAB
