About the Role

At Pearson TQ, we’re looking for an Apprenticeship Coach – Military Engineer Construction Technician, specialising in Plant Operator and Mechanic delivery, to support apprentices throughout their learning journey. In this role, you’ll help learners build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and behaviours they need to successfully complete their apprenticeship and progress in their military engineering careers.
You’ll deliver high-quality coaching, mentoring, reviews, workplace observations, and learner support, helping apprentices prepare for Gateway and achieve their apprenticeship standard. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong Plant Operator experience who enjoys developing others and wants to make a meaningful impact through apprenticeship delivery.
In this role, your success will be seen through the progress and achievements of your apprentices — supporting them to develop practical skills, demonstrate their learning, and successfully complete their programme.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Coach, mentor, and inspire apprentices throughout their apprenticeship journey.
- Support learners to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required for successful completion of the Military Engineering Construction Technician Apprenticeship.
- Deliver engaging learning, progress reviews, workplace visits, and observations that help apprentices achieve their full potential.
- Provide constructive, professional, and relevant feedback to help learners understand their progress and next steps.
- Help apprentices demonstrate their skills and knowledge through high-quality evidence and assessment activities that support successful programme completion.
- Build strong working relationships with apprentices, military or civilian line managers, colleagues, customers, and stakeholders to support positive learner outcomes.
- Use digital tools, e-portfolio systems, and online learning platforms to support effective and efficient delivery.
- Maintain accurate learner records and complete progress reviews within agreed timescales and quality standards.
- Take part in standardisation, team meetings, and Continuing Professional Development activities to support high-quality apprenticeship delivery.
- Work flexibly across apprenticeship delivery programmes when required.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with a genuine passion for developing others.
You’ll ideally have:
- Strong practical experience as a Plant Operator, with wider knowledge of construction operations.
- Experience in apprenticeship training, delivery, coaching, mentoring, or workplace learning.
- A relevant training, teaching, assessor, or mentor qualification.
- The ability to support, motivate, and guide learners toward successful achievement.
- Experience managing apprentice progress and supporting learners against targets.
- Confidence using technology and digital platforms to support learning and development.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation, and written skills.
- Good IT skills and the ability to work independently.
- Competence or qualification in one or more of the following: Light or Medium Wheeled Tractor, wheeled or tracked Excavator, Crawler Tractor, or Dump Truck.
It would also be great if you have:
- Proven coaching and mentoring skills.
- Experience of Ofsted inspections.
- Understanding of ESFA funding requirements.
Location & Work Setup
This is an Onsite Role with travel. You’ll on working on one of our based in South of England (Chatham, Kent or others) while regularly engaging with apprentices through workplace visits, virtual coaching sessions, and programme-related activities as required.
Flexibility may be needed, including some evening or weekend work when required by the programme.
