Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking for an opportunity to make a real impact within a respected Cornish construction business?

We are looking for a commercially astute and motivated Quantity Surveyor to join our growing Commercial Team and help drive the successful delivery of our diverse portfolio of construction projects. 

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in managing project costs, maximising profitability, and supporting the successful delivery of contracts from tender stage through to completion.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Quantity Surveyor, you'll work closely with our Commercial Operations Director, Project Managers, Estimators, Buyers and operational teams to provide a professional commercial service across a range of major and minor works projects. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the commercial and financial performance of construction projects.
  • Preparing valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
  • Pricing and managing variations.
  • Monitoring costs, budgets and profitability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Supporting tender preparation and procurement activities.
  • Managing contractual documentation and ensuring compliance with company procedures.
  • Working with the supply chain to secure value for money and resolve commercial issues.
  • Providing accurate financial reporting and forecasting.
  • Supporting the delivery of projects safely, efficiently and profitably. 

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a commercially focused professional who combines technical expertise with excellent communication and relationship-building skills. 

Essential

  • HNC or equivalent Level 5 qualification in Building Construction or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the housebuilding or construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of general contracting.
  • Proven ability to deliver commercial performance and profitability.
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations and health and safety requirements.
  • Excellent organisational, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong financial and budget management capability.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively under pressure. 

Desirable

  • Degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in Building Construction or related discipline.
  • Associate membership of CIOB.
  • Experience of affordable housing, new-build housing and contracting projects.
  • Knowledge of the local construction supply chain.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
