Job Description

We are looking for a Graduate Civil Design Engineer to join our integrated team.

Day-to-day, you’ll contribute to the design of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects on our Yorkshire Water Framework from outline design through to detailed design, construction and commissioning support. Some of your responsibilities may include:

  • Performing internal and external activities associated with civil and drainage design, in line with client specifications and design standards.
  • Design duties will include preparation of design solutions at various stages of a project; preparation of drawings, reports, specifications, calcs and estimates; attendance at Client meetings and checking the work of peers to ensure accuracy.
  • Production of engineering drawings, including 3D or 2D computer drawings.
  • Preparation of land entry drawings.
  • Contributing to solutions for design challenges.
  • Helping with the administration of design quality control.
  • Organising and assisting with design inputs (i.e. surveys and investigations) and assisting with the preparation of drawings, reports and specifications.

Our graduate programme lasts for two years, and you will have a tailored development pathway aligned to your discipline. You will attend virtual and in-person events across the two years to enable you to develop and hone your business and leadership skills, in addition to your technical skills through working towards professional accreditation.

Qualifications

In order to be successful in this role, we would like you have already achieved, or be predicted to achieve by the start date:

  • Minimum 2.2 Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline
  • Three A levels at grades A*- C including mathematics and physical science or equivalent such as Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician apprenticeship (with minimum DD for BTEC National Diploma in Civil Engineering.
  • Ability to produce neat and accurate technical drawings with a thorough knowledge and understanding of CAD software (AutoCAD).
  • Practical awareness of a civil engineering environment.
  • Good IT skills and able to use Microsoft Office packages and computers for design work, calculations and testing.
  • Good organisation, time management and communication skills.
  • Driving licence or be actively working towards achieving this and commitment to achieve by the start date.

You must also be available to start full-time work by September 2026 at the latest and have:
