Description

As a Graduate Civil & Structural Engineer you will be responsible for a key element of design work on a project taking a significant role in technical delivery as well as managing aspects of time, cost and quality and will acquire technical, leadership and project management skills and experience. This will include undertaking the following tasks:



Responsibilities

- Preparing engineering design calculations, specifications and reports utilising emerging digital technology and in line with latest codes 

- Supporting the successful delivery of design projects in line with the contracted cost and programme 

- Communicating with other members of the project team & supply chain, often in a multi-disciplinary environment 

- Coordinating the detailing and drawing requirements on the project 

- Developing designer’s risk assessments 

- Identifying opportunities to improve the sustainability considerations in our projects including delivering low carbon solutions in our design processes 

- Seek to improve existing ways of working, by finding efficiencies in processes and automating design deliverables 

- Support Work Winning team

- Full engagement with the Costain professional development scheme to become a Chartered Engineer within 3-4 year period 

Locations

The roles will be based at either our Manchester or London offices

Costain Graduate Development Programme

The programme will focus on helping you to grow your personal and leadership skills, alongside business and of course, the technical skills you will learn day-to-day on the job.

The programme is delivered in a variety of formats throughout the 2 years and will allow you to establish a network of contacts that will help and support you through your first 2 years and beyond

You will have the opportunity to gain experience on a range of exciting projects and sectors during this period, including highways, rail, nuclear, energy, water and aviation. This will help you develop an understanding of depth and breadth of Costain’s engineering services while also increasing your engineering ability.

Our line managers are fully supportive of the Graduate Development Programme and will be involved in helping you along the way.

In addition to the programme, we offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving Chartership



Qualifications

- Understanding of the CDM Regulations 

- Minimum 2:1 achieved in a Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering degree accredited by the ICE or IStructE

- MSc in a Civil or Structural Engineering degree preferred 

- Work experience relevant to the Civil & Structural Engineering sector preferred but not essential 

- Have experience working with Eurocodes and British Standards

- Have passion for Costain's Carbon Net Zero targets 

- IT proficient 

- Able to work accurately and appreciate its importance to the team 

- A willingness to learn with appropriate instruction 

- Excel at building and maintaining positive relationships 

- The ability to thrive in pressured situations 

- The ability to empathise and communicate with all people, regardless of their background or circumstances 

- Excellent organisation, communication, and time management skills 

- This role is mainly based in our Manchester office with ad hoc site visits across the first 2 years

As some of our project sites are based in remote locations, it is worth noting that you will be required to have the ability to travel to site
