Heavy Civils Machine Operator – Road Formation
Coinford are leaders in groundworks and concrete frame construction, delivering complex heavy civils and infrastructure projects across the UK. We are currently seeking an experienced Heavy Civils Machine Operator to support large-scale road formation and earthworks activities on our sites.
This role is suited to a skilled operator who understands production targets, works safely around live environments, and consistently delivers high-quality formation and finishing works.
Key Responsibilities:Operate a 14T excavator safely and efficiently in accordance with site rules, RAMS, and company procedures
Carry out road formation works, including bulk excavation, trimming, fine grading, and finishing to tight tolerances
Excavate and prepare formations for Type 1, capping layers, and pavement construction
Work accurately to levels, drawings, and engineer’s specifications, liaising closely with site engineers and supervisors
Operate confidently around live services, adhering strictly to service avoidance and permit-to-dig procedures
Use trench support systems where required, ensuring all lifting and excavation activities are carried out safely
Maintain production while supporting safe movement of materials and plant across site
Complete daily pre-start checks, defect reporting, and statutory inspections
Carry out routine cleaning, greasing, and basic maintenance
Take pride in the condition, safety, and presentation of the machine
Adapt to programme demands and support the wider site team as required
CPCS or NPORS 360 Excavator (Above 10T) with Lifting Ops
5+ years’ experience operating plant on heavy civils or infrastructure projects
Proven experience delivering road formation and pavement preparation works
Experience using GPS / machine control systems (Trimble, Leica, Topcon or similar) highly advantageous
Additional CPCS/NPORS tickets (Dumper, Roller, Telehandler, etc.) beneficial
SSSTS or willingness to work towards it
Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused
Strong communication and teamwork skills
High standards of workmanship and productivity
Right to work in the UK
