About the Role
You will be responsible for optimising materials and parts stocks, avoiding shortages occurring and minimising stock valuations. Utilising a pro-active approach, you will drive down the cost of purchased commodities and deliver stores systems and controls to maximise the factory capability to meet budget production targets; volume / yield / waste. You will also:
- Manage stock inventory; order and receive parts/goods for the engineering department, stores and kiln; optimising material stock to avoid shortage occurring
- Maintain an organised stores area, with all parts and locations clearly identified so parts can be accessed speedily and safely; reporting any unavailable equipment/material that may compromise plant performance
- Analyse data and produce standard and ad hoc reports
- Control & monitor monthly spends to budget to include weekly spend update report
- Process all goods received
- Responsible for all invoice queries and monthly reports
- Support preventative maintenance initiatives
- Reduce the cost of purchased commodities by looking for best price/value from approved suppliers
- Maintain & update processes and systems as required and ensure stores users comply to them
- Comply and maintain housekeeping to 5S standards
- Maintain purchased products quality and standards
- Carry out COSSH assessments for relevant items held in stores
- Remove obsolete items / replenish to ensure there are sufficient critical spares for key tasks
- Link stores locations and parts to Agility
- Ensure all users follow the appropriate procedures for taking items from stores / replenishing
- Support the implementation of any new stores systems
- Ensure controls remain in place / sufficient parts are available throughout any periods of absence
- Assist the maintenance personnel as required
- Provide absence cover for the Maintenance Planner
This site produces bricks, supporting our manufacturing of high‑quality building materials across the UK.
This position is based at our Todhills site, which is near to Bishops Auckland, Crook, Willington, and Spennymoor, easily commutable from Durham, Middlesborough, and Darlington.
Hours of Work: 8.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday
About You
Essential
- Current / valid RTITB, ITSSAR, NPORS or CPCS forklift truck license with recent driving experience within the last six months
- Competent in MS Office and comfortable in the use of computer-based systems
- Numerate and adept at interpreting data
- Mechanical and electrical maintenance experience, with knowledge of the items in the stores and their functionality
Desirable
- IOSH/NEBOSH
- Awareness of COSSH, LOLER, PUWER and other regulations
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing systems and processes
- working knowledge of SAP system, and experience working with Agility CMMS or similar
- Previous experience working in a benchmark maintenance stores environment or similar relevant experience
- 2 years plus experience of working in a high production environment
- Good exposure to health & safety standards
- IT skills – good knowledge of MS Word, Excel & Outlook
- Strong organisational & planning abilities
- Self-motivated, high standards, a passion for improvement and a target/delivery focused approach
