The Asset Management and Compliance Programme, the largest programme at Heathrow, involves the replacement or renewal of engineering, technology, and commercial assets across the Heathrow estate; it also ensures that assets are compliant to regulatory or statutory requirements throughout the service offering at the airport.

The CTA tunnel is one of Heathrow’s most important assets and links the Central Terminal Area to the M25 and M4 spur to the north. The Main Tunnel opened in the 1950’s and is located under the North Runway. It provides the major vehicle access to the central terminal area for the public. In excess of 50,000 cars, taxis, buses, coaches and lorries pass through the tunnel each day. The Main Tunnel comprises two main bores, each with two lanes and two additional single lane side bores

Our partnership at Heathrow continues to grow and as such the Costain Heathrow team are looking for a Senior Engineer / Sub-Agent to work on a night shift to lead the  team responsible for subcontract management and delivery of the passive Fire protection cladding in the tunnel each night as part of the Q6 Cladding installation works in the Main CTA Tunnel at Heathrow Airport within the ARP portfolio. 

You will be required to work on night shifts with shift patterns along with night shift team, you will be reporting to Project Manager.

The Senior Engineer / sub-agent will also be responsible for the delivery of the H7 Renewals in the Main CTA Tunnel, ensuring engineering excellence and compliance. The role involves night shift works and coordination with other tunnels work activities and operations and maintenance

The H7 renewals covers self-delivery and subcontract management of the following key scopes

  • Civils repairs (including steel structure repair and replacement, concrete repairs, water ingress, drainage

  • Portals and Approaches

  • Tunnel Accessibility

  • Contraflow

  • Approach Traffic Signage

Responsibilities

Responsibilities 

  • Leading night shift team 
  • Support the Works Manager on nights in day-to-day subcontract management and manage shift engineers in writing shift reports and monitoring progress 
  • Take charge of short-term programming and sequencing, aligning with the main project schedule by reviewing and supporting subcontractor with short term planning and progress monitoring 
  • Completing Inspection and Test Plan Check sheets progressively as the works progresses 
  • Ensure that the shift engineers efficiently manage night shift activities for effective program delivery.
  • Oversee the diverse work scope, collaborating with supervision to streamline operations efficiently.
  • Lead our approach to health, safety, sustainability, and the environment, prioritising personal safety and well-being.
  • Ensure permits, RAMS, and QA documents are in place and completed as required for your works.
  • Promote efficiency and ongoing productivity improvements, establishing best practices for the team and delivering added value for our customer.
  • Understand and Champion the Heathrow “One team” ethos.

 

Essential

  • Experience of delivering works under tight deadline 
  • A positive and proactive attitude.
  • Good record keeping and awareness of the importance of records.
  • Good at working in teams with other engineers, supervisors and supply chain partners to achieve your teams’ tasks.
  • Confident to ask questions to ensure you understand your tasks and raise concerns or challenge anything you don’t believe to be right out on site.
  • Able to identify opportunities to improve our quality and productivity through best practice, process improvements and continuous improvement practices.
  • Able to work and learn quickly in a fast paced, fun and dynamic environment.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering and practical delivery and subcontract experience.
  • SMSTS  
  • CSCS
